Dr Vivien Yang

Dr Yang is a registered educational and child psychologist, and the founder of Bloom Child Psychology. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a Psychology degree in 2002, and obtained her doctorate at UCL in 2011. She started her civil service career with the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) in 2002, teaching at a primary school before her posting to the MOE Psychological Services Branch. Over the years, Dr Yang has worked with a diverse caseload of students with developmental differences, including autism, dyslexia, ADHD, selective mutism, anxiety, developmental delays, genetic disorders, dyspraxia and other complex needs. She served in MOE for 14 years before starting her own practice in 2019, focusing on direct work with children and families. In her previous role as Master Educational Psychologist in MOE, she led in various projects and initiatives related to special needs support in schools. Her detailed understanding of the educational landscape and policies enables her to customise strategies that fit well within school contexts.

Dr Yang is an SPS Approved Supervisor who has supervised numerous psychologists over the years, receiving awards for her role as mentor and supervisor. She provides clinical supervision to trainee psychologists with the Psychology and Child & Human Development Academic Group at the National Institute of Education (NIE), as well as psychologists in other educational or clinical settings. Dr Yang previously lectured for the Psychology programme at the SUSS School of Humanities and Behavioural Sciences. She is trained in various techniques and approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), solution-focused brief therapy, functional behaviour assessment, Social Thinking, dynamic assessment, ASIST (suicide intervention), Autism Diagnostic Observational Schedule (ADOS-2) and Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI-R).

Dr Yang works closely with the team of qualified psychologists to deliver assessment and intervention services.
